Scottish police are literally investigating why the chicken crossed the road

Why did the chicken cross the road? Police in Dundee, Scotland, are on the case after motorists called in reports of a wayward chicken wandering in the street near the center of town Friday morning. The beast was soon apprehended, a task reportedly requiring the efforts of no less than three officers.

"The bird was traced safe and well and has been brought to our police station," said a police representative. "The [Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals] has been contacted and will be attending to take care of the chicken until the owner is traced." Until then, the age-old question will remain unanswered, so the police are appealing for "any information" on the bird's origin and, of course, travel-related motives.
