As soon as the polls closed in Utah, multiple media organizations quickly projected that Gov. Gary Herbert (R) and Sen. Mike Lee (R) won re-election, and half an hour later, Fox News and NBC News called the state for Donald Trump. Trump had faced opposition in the traditional GOP state, thanks in part to a strong showing in the polls by independent conservative candidate Evan McMullin.
