Paul Ryan congratulates Donald Trump for hearing a voice 'no one else heard'
Weeks after announcing he would no longer defend Donald Trump or actively campaign for the then-Republican nominee, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) delivered an impassioned congratulations Wednesday to his party's candidate — and the country's next president. "This is the most incredible political feat I have seen in my lifetime," Ryan said, marveling at how Trump's "coattails" got a lot of Republicans elected down the ballot, helping the party maintain its majorities in the House and the Senate.
Ryan vowed Trump would lead a "unified Republican government" and urged the country to remember this "needs to be a time of redemption, not recrimination." "Donald Trump heard a voice in this country that no one else heard," he said.
