Chinese President Xi Jinping and Donald Trump have had their first conversation, with Xi telling Trump their two countries must work together to promote global economic growth.
"China and the U.S. — as the world's biggest developing country and the biggest developed country, and the top two global economies — need to and can cooperate on many issues," Xi said, the state broadcaster China Central Television reports. "At this moment, there is an important opportunity and massive potential for China-U.S. cooperation so that both sides need to strengthen coordination." CCTV said the pair also agreed to meet soon. Trump's transition team released a statement saying the Monday phone conversation "established a clear sense of mutual respect."
