Peter Capaldi is leaving Doctor Who

On Monday, actor Peter Capaldi told BBC Radio 2 that this is his last season playing the namesake Time Lord on the venerable British sci-fi show Doctor Who. He played the 12th regeneration of the Doctor, and the BBC has not named his replacement. The 2017 Christmas episode will be his swan song.
Capaldi has played the Doctor since 2013, and his departure in December will coincide with the exit of longtime showrunner Steven Moffat. "One of the greatest privileges of being Doctor Who is to see the world at its best," Capaldi said. "From our brilliant crew and creative team working for the best broadcaster on the planet, to the viewers and fans whose endless creativity, generosity, and inclusiveness points to a brighter future ahead. I can't thank everyone enough. It's been cosmic."
