One of the world's tallest residential buildings is on fire

Firefighters in Dubai are trying to control a blaze tearing through the Torch Tower, one of the tallest residential buildings in the world.

The 1,105-foot Torch Tower near the Dubai Marina has 86 floors and 676 apartments, and was damaged in a 2015 fire. Authorities said the skyscraper, popular with expats, has been "successfully evacuated," and no injuries have been reported so far. A police spokesperson told Gulf News the fire began on the ninth floor and quickly spread to higher floors; it's not yet clear what started it.
