Tuesday's House vote to pass the Republican tax overhaul marked the culmination of decades of work by House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.). Fittingly, at the conclusion of the 227-203 vote, Ryan banged his gavel with so much enthusiasm and triumph that it literally tipped off the lectern:
