Rick Scott easily wins Florida GOP nomination for Senate

On Tuesday, Florida Gov. Rick Scott won the Republican primary for the Senate seat now held by Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson.

Scott, backed by President Trump, has 88.7 percent of the vote, with 78.9 percent of precincts reporting. His opponent, Rocky De La Fuente, has 11.3 percent.

Nelson ran unopposed in the Democratic primary, and is seeking his fourth term in office. The Nelson-Scott race is expected to be the most expensive of the 2018 midterms, CNBC reports, with both campaigns, plus independent groups, already spending more than $50 million. Scott is a former health-care company executive, and used some of his massive wealth to fund his campaign; by early August, he had spent $20.7 million of his own money on the primary race.
