Rep. Steve King (R) defeated Democrat J.D. Scholten to keep his seat representing Iowa's 4th Congressional District, CNN and NBC News project.

King was first elected in 2002, in a district that is rural and very red. Scholten, a paralegal and former professional baseball player, lost by about 4 percentage points.

King has a history of making racist, homophobic, and misogynistic statements, and in recent weeks he lost the support of donors like Purina and Land O'Lakes and was rebuked by National Republican Congressional Committee chairman Rep. Steve Stivers (R-Ohio), who said he "strongly" condemned King's behavior and called on Americans to "stand up against white supremacy and hate in all forms."
