Clemson and Alabama faced off in the College Football Playoff title game in Santa Clara, California, Monday night, in their fourth straight college football postseason matchup. Unlike the last three meetings, this one wasn't close. No. 2 Clemson dominated No. 1 Alabama, winning 44-16 after scoring 30 unanswered points. Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns, and the Tigers defense held the Crimson Tide to just three points in the final three quarters. Alabama beat Clemson in the title match at the end of the 2015 season, Clemson won the championship in 2016, and Alabama beat Clemson in last year's Sugar Bowl semifinal match.
