Elizabeth Warren rolls out immigration reform plan in anticipation of reported ICE raids

Democrats are banding together to remind immigrants of their rights when facing law enforcement.

Immigrations and Customs Enforcement raids are headed for several U.S. cities starting Sunday, targeting at least 2,000 immigrants facing deportation orders, The New York Times reported Thursday. It sparked statements from Democrats condemning the reported raids, and even a full-on immigration reform plan from 2020 candidate and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.).

Upon hearing that ICE raids would reportedly be happening in New York City, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) issued a statement pledging that "New York will fight" this "politically motivated directive." He also provided information for state-supported immigrant legal defense group the Liberty Defense Project. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) released a similar statement calling the raids a "great failure of the Trump administration."

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), who represents a part of New York City, retweeted graphics reminding immigrants of the circumstances under which they have to open their doors for law enforcement and other tips to protect their legal rights.

Meanwhile, Warren rolled out yet another Medium post explaining how she'll create a "fair and welcoming immigration system" if elected. It proposes "eliminating abusive enforcement" by decriminalizing migration, among other things.

ICE declined to release specific details of its enforcement operations.
