Game of Thrones ties record for most Emmy wins for a season of television
Game of Thrones is going out on top.
The hit HBO series on Sunday tied the record for most Emmy wins ever awarded for a single season of television. Thrones took home 12 Emmys for its eighth and final season, including the top prize of Outstanding Drama Series. It ties Thrones itself, which for its fifth season also collected 12 Emmys, Vox reports.
Ahead of Sunday's big night, Thrones had broken an Emmys record with the most nominations of any season of TV ever: 32. In addition to the top drama prize, Peter Dinklage also won the award for best supporting actor in a drama series Sunday. Thrones won 10 awards at last weekend's Creative Arts Emmys.

By winning Outstanding Drama series four times, Thrones is also now tied with Mad Men, Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, and The West Wing for most wins, Entertainment Weekly reports.
The final season of Thrones was controversial among fans, and although some expected far more wins Sunday, its top drama prize suggests Emmy voters weren't quite as critical. Sorry, Roy family — the Lannisters send their regards.
