Alanis Morissette just made the jump from singing about the "good advice that you just didn't take" to dishing it out. The Guardian announced Friday that the Canadian singer has signed up to be its weekend magazine's new advice columnist. Morissette, perhaps best known for her '90s hits "Ironic" and "You Oughta Know," is poised to take over the column from Molly Ringwald on Jan. 16.

While the leap from singer to advice giver might seem unusual, Morissette has actually been giving advice for years. She says she was the "family therapist" growing up, and she has recently been recording advice podcasts for her website. "I'm definitely a therapy girl," Morissette said. "I think that's quite obvious. I don't want to say everyone should [have therapy], but do I think everyone might benefit from it? Yes."
