Only 2 fans welcomed the Cardinals back to Arizona after their loss to the Panthers
It was bad enough that the Arizona Cardinals were defeated by the Carolina Panthers, 49-15, on Sunday, missing out on Super Bowl 50. To pour some salt into the wound, just two fans waited for them when they arrived back in Arizona.
DJ Michael Gonzalez and Ana Rojas were there to greet the team on Monday, and both said they could tell the players appreciated their appearance. "They were grateful," Rojas told 12 News. "They rolled down their windows and said thank you, waved, all of them waved, thumbs up, it was cool." Gonzalez said it was "the least we could do as fans, show some support, even if it was just only two out here. I bet it felt great to see two faces out here, rather than no faces out here."
Rojas — who was so upset by the loss that she wasn't able to sleep — wants the Cardinals to know "the fans love you no matter what. Win or lose, we're still Bird Gang." One member of the Bird Gang who should be rethinking his membership is Jose Soberanes, who was convinced the Cardinals were going to win the Super Bowl and got a tattoo with the team's logo in front of the Super Bowl trophy and the number "50." He told 12 News: "A lot of people were like, 'you're the jinx, you're the reason they played so bad,' but I don't know."
