New Jersey newspapers call on Chris Christie to do the state 'a favor' and resign
An editorial ran in six New Jersey newspapers on Tuesday, calling on an "arrogant" Gov. Chris Christie (R) to resign.
The newspapers — including the Asbury Park Press, Cherry Hill Courier-Post, and Morristown Daily Record — ran the joint editorial after Christie held a contentious press conference on Monday, where he refused to answer any questions about anything except his nomination of a state Supreme Court judge, USA Today reports. After Christie was asked why he wouldn't comment on any other issues, he responded by saying: "Because I don't want to."
The editorial states that in 2015, Christie spent at least part of 261 days outside of New Jersey, and has been spending a lot of time stumping for Donald Trump out of state (he was in Florida Tuesday evening with Trump, introducing him before his Super Tuesday victory speech). "We're fed up with Gov. Chris Christie's arrogance," the papers wrote, adding that they are also tired of Christie's "opportunism" and "hypocrisy." For the good of New Jersey, "it's time for Christie to do his long-neglected constituents a favor and resign as governor," the editorial said. "If he refuses, citizens should initiate a recall effort."
