Trump touts 'very nice note' from Kim Jong Un that calls Trump 'Your Excellency' five times, completely ignores denuclearization
President Trump was thrilled about a kind letter he received from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un — so much so that he seemed to miss the fact that it doesn't mention denuclearization at all.
Trump shared on Twitter what he called "a very nice note" from North Korea's leader Thursday, which described their June Singapore meeting as "the start of a meaningful journey" between the U.S. and North Korea.
The sparsely worded note makes no mention of denuclearization — though its English translation does have space to call Trump "Your Excellency" five times. It only vaguely mentions the "faithful implementation of the joint statement" Trump and Kim agreed to at the summit last month. That statement did mention North Korea's pledge to "work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."

The letter is dated July 6, 2018 — before North Korean officials skipped a Thursday meeting with the U.S. about bringing home American soldiers' remains from the Korean War, per The Washington Post. But to Trump, this letter still equals "great progress."
