Fitz and The Tantrums' 6 favorite songs for feeling sexy

The L.A. soul-poppers recommend songs by Beyoncé, Prince, and more

The retro-pop stylings of Fitz and The Tantrums are so unapologetically energetic that it's not hard to see why their singles have ascended to the top of the U.S. alternative charts. Though it's been a year since the release of their sophomore album, More Than Just a Dream, the Southern Californian sextet has continued to tour relentlessly behind it, proving that they're still one of the hardest working bands on the festival circuit (Vogue anointed themwith this title back in 2011).

The Week sat down with frontman Michael "Fitz" Fitzpatrick and vocalist Noelle Scaggs at New York City's Governors Ball to talk about Beyoncé, tour mates, and the dark side of sex. Below, six of their favorite songs for those intimate moments:

1. Usher, "Good Kisser"
SCAGGS: "I like the rhythm and the layers and the way that every single part of the song is its own chorus. I'm interested in seeing how this song does, especially with radio, because it may be over some peoples' heads in the pop division — but its so creative and [Usher] sounds so amazing singing it...it reminds you of how much talent he has."

2. Big Data, "Dangerous"
SCAGGS: "Big Data is a really, really great crew. They're going to be opening for us on tour soon; I'm looking forward to it. I first heard this song on KROQ in L.A. and fell in love with it. Since then it's been added to all my playlists."

3. Neil Young, "Vampire Blues"
SCAGGS: "This song is so classic. It's from the On the Beach record, which is probably one of my favorite records he's ever recorded. This is really just a great song to throw on and put on the candles."

4. Prince, "Darling Nikki"
FITZPATRICK: "This is definitely one of my favorite Prince songs. It's the dirty side of sex; the dark side of sexy time. This song is so sexually charged it's kind of crazy."

5. Phantogram, "Fall in Love"
FITZPATRICK: "I like this one because it feels really ethereal and sexy, but also really progressive and aggressive at the same time."

6. Beyonce, "Drunk in Love"
FITZPATRICK: "Because who doesn't make some bad drunk in love decisions..."

More Than Just a Dream is out now on Elektra.
