Tip of the week: How to sleep while flying
Nab a prime seat; Avoid disruptions; Get comfy
Nab a prime seat. Seats in an exit row offer enough legroom that you can use your carry-on as a footrest, and a window seat frees you to rest your head sideways. Choose an empty row when you can: Go online the day of the flight to see if you can move to one. And avoid seats near bathrooms or flight attendant stations, where there’s lots of traffic.
Avoid disruptions. Wear an eye mask and earplugs or noise-canceling headphones. Keep your seatbelt buckled over your blanket so that flight attendants can see it and won’t wake you if the plane hits turbulence.
Get comfy. Neck pillows will keep your head from rocking. For long flights, consider bringing pajama bottoms or sweatpants to change into in the plane’s bathroom. And having a blanket from home can be more comforting than a scratchy airplane blanket.
