Fans of The Closer seem to have remained loyal followers of this spinoff, which was cable’s top-rated new series last year. Since star Kyra Sedgwick departed, the LAPD’s major-crimes division has been led by Capt. Sharon Raydor, played by two-time Oscar nominee Mary McDonnell. As Season 2 begins, Raydor and her mostly familiar crew work to win a confession after the pregnant wife of a famous director is murdered. Monday, June 10, at 9 p.m., TNT
Magic City
Echoes of Mad Men and Martin Scorsese’s Casino ring throughout this period drama, set at a glitzy Miami Beach hotel in the late 1950s. Though it doesn’t yet have the polish of its influences, the series shows signs of maturing as it heads into its second season. Jeffrey Dean Morgan returns as hotelier Ike Evans, while James Caan and Esai Morales help beef up the cast. Friday, June 14, at 9 p.m., Starz
