Lagerfeld’s pet obsession
The famously gruff fashion designer is obsessed with Choupette, a 9-month-old white Siamese.
Karl Lagerfeld is obsessed with his cat, said Marc Karimzadeh in Women’s Wear Daily. Lagerfeld’s current muse, male model Baptiste Giabiconi, recently asked the famously gruff fashion designer to look after his pet cat Choupette while he was away traveling. “But then I refused to give her back,” says Lagerfeld, 78. “I thought she was too cute.” He now treats Choupette, a 9-month-old white Siamese, like a spoiled supermodel. “She is a kept woman,” he explains. “She has lunch and dinner with me on the table, with her own food. She doesn’t want to eat on the floor. She sleeps under a pillow and she even knows how to use an iPad. She has two personal maids, for both night and day.” When Lagerfeld is out of town, Choupette’s assistants keep records of her day-to-day activities. “When I am not there, the maids take down, in little books, everything she did, from what she ate to how she behaved, if she was tired and if she wasn’t sleeping,” he says. “We have almost 600 pages. It could be funny to make a little book of Choupette’s diary.” What Lagerfeld won’t do, though, is design any outfits for his beloved kitty. “I don’t like animals in human clothes. I think that’s very circus-like.”
