Charity of the week: Concerns of Police Survivors
This oraganization provides support to the families of police officers killed in the line of duty.
Concerns of Police Survivors (nationalcops.org) makes a mission of providing support to the families of police officers killed in the line of duty. Today C.O.P.S. provides programs and services to nearly 30,000 people who have identified themselves as survivors nationwide, at no cost. C.O.P.S. hosts a summer camp for children who have lost a parent to a line-of-duty death, Outward Bound trips for teens, and retreats for adult children, spouses, parents, siblings, in-laws, and co-workers struggling with their loss. The organization also works with law-enforcement agencies to ensure they have policies and procedures in place to handle line-of-duty deaths and incidents.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which ranks not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their control of administrative and fund-raising expenses, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest ranking.
