Tip of the week: How to remove makeup stains

Absorb the oils; Blow off powders; Hit the alcohol

Absorb the oils. To get lipstick off a collar, sprinkle the stain with baby powder to soak up the oil. Drape with a clean cloth and run a warm, dry iron over the top. The stain should come right up, “like melted wax off a tablecloth.”

Blow off powders. Don’t wet down a stray dusting of eye shadow or face powder. Take your hair dryer to it first. There’s also no need for water with deodorant marks. Rub off those “unsightly white marks” with panty hose, a nylon sock, a used dryer sheet, or even the foam that’s sometimes used on dry cleaners’ hangers.

Hit the alcohol. To take out foundation makeup, blot up any excess, then dip a cotton swab in alcohol and dab the stain gently from the inside of the garment. Repeat as needed before resorting to laundering or a trip to the dry cleaner.
