Woody Harrelson’s fear of the modern world

Woody Harrelson takes clean living to a whole new level, said Mike Sager in Esquire. A raw vegan and eco-radical, Harrelson, 50, lives with his family on a working organic farm on Maui. He doesn’t wear clothes made of synthetic materials, or anything that’s been washed with standard soap powder. “The cleansers are a thousand times more toxic than anything they purport to be cleaning,” says Harrelson. “Even sleeping on sheets in hotels washed with these detergents—I mean, I literally get nauseous.” Harrelson first became aware of the hidden dangers of modern life about three decades ago, when he was a struggling actor in New York. “I was on a bus and some girl sees me blowing my nose,” he says. “I had acne all over my face, and she’s like, ‘You’re lactose intolerant. If you quit dairy, these symptoms will be gone in three days.’” He gave up milk and cheese, and his zits and catarrh quickly cleared. “I started thinking to myself, ‘Jeez, I’ve always been told milk does a body good. So what else are they lying about?’ All these things we’re brought up to believe are just a total hoax, just bulls--- advertising, you know?”
