Suicide attempt: A Polish military prosecutor tried to commit suicide in the middle of a news conference this week. Col. Mikolaj Przybyl invited reporters to his office to defend his work and argue against plans to bring military prosecutors under civilian control. Abruptly, he asked the reporters to leave him for a moment and then shot himself in the head. “I wanted to commit suicide, but I aimed wrong,” he said after he came out of surgery. Przybyl said the attempt was an effort to expose “serious corruption” in the military, particularly in one of the cases he was working on involving defense contracts.
