Charity of the week: Refugees International
Refugees International conducts field missions around the world to determine refugees’ needs of food, shelter, health care, and security.
Refugees International (refintl.org) pushes for better assistance, improved safety, and more rights for the more than 43 million refugees and internally displaced people around the world. Since 1979, the organization has worked on behalf of stateless and displaced people in dozens of countries, including Iraq, Pakistan, Sudan, and Somalia, sounding the alarm about developing crises and worsening conditions so that aid agencies and policymakers can respond quickly and effectively. Each year, Refugees International conducts as many as two dozen field missions around the globe to determine refugees’ needs of food, shelter, health care, and security. These independent reports offer an accurate and timely assessment of the plight of refugees, so that they can get the lifesaving assistance they need.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which ranks not-for profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their control of administrative and fund-raising expenses, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest ranking.
