A 290-pound New York City man is suing White Castle because he can’t fit into the burger chain’s seats. Martin Kessman, 64, said restaurant staff assured him two years ago that the “booths were going to be enlarged and made comfortable for people with a little more weight,” but never followed through on that promise. “I just want to sit down like a normal person,” said Kessman.

An accused murderer received a summons to serve as a juror in his own trial. Derrick Smith, on trial for a barroom murder in Schenectady, N.Y., told the judge that he’d be glad to answer the summons and sit on the jury, arguing—unsuccessfully—that he could be fair and impartial. “I have never had this happen,” said the commissioner of jurors.
