The anti-Oscars: 4 big losers

Last night, the Oscars honored the best films of the year, but the night before, Hollywood roasted the worst, with the 31st Annual Golden Raspberry Awards. Each year, per the official website, the Razzies present "Dis-Honors for Worst Achievements in Film," throwing "well-aimed Darts of Derision" at "Hollywood's High Profile Humiliations." Here are this year's most acclaimed losers:

The Last Airbender and M. Night Shyamalan

M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender was The King's Speech of the Razzies, taking home five trophies, including Worst Picture, Worst Director, and Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3-D. Shyamalan's Razzie sweep completes "the epic fall from grace for the once promising writer/director," says Chad Shanks at Culture Mob. "It's hard to imagine a time when M. Night Shyamalan wasn't a punchline, but after 1999's The Sixth Sense, he was hailed as the next Steven Spielberg or Stanley Kubrick."

Sex and the City 2

Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda nabbed awards for Worst Prequel, Sequel, Remake, or Ripoff, and the actresses who play them — Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Catrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon — took home the Best Actress prize for their ill-timed ensemble work. "It was released in the middle of a period of American history when everyone's scrounging not to lose their homes," says Razzies founder John Wilson. "And these women are riding around in Rolls-Royces, buying expensive shoes and just throwing money around like they're drunk."

Ashton Kutcher

Mr. Demi Moore nabbed the Worst Actor prize for his turns in Valentine's Day and Killers, beating out the likes of Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson, stars of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Indeed, the "biggest surprise of the night," says SodaHead Film at the SodaHead blog, was that "Eclipse managed to come away empty-handed."

Jessica Alba

Kutcher's Valentine's Day co-star scored the Worst Supporting Actress award for her work in that film, as well as The Killer Inside Me, Little Fockers, and Machete. While Alba was competing against titans like Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, and Cher, her superior ineptitude helped her "[win] this one hands down," says Radell Smith at Examiner.
