Best websites for recycling just about everything
Here is how to put a pair of old Nikes or a pair of old eyeglasses to good use.
Nikereuseashoe.com, Nike’s shoe recycling program, provides drop-off locations throughout North America for people to unload worn-out athletic shoes. The sneakers are recycled into Nike Grind material (rubber, foam, or fiber) and incorporated into running tracks, basketball courts, and other athletic surfaces.
Neweyesfortheneedy.com takes old eyeglasses and distributes them to people in developing nations. Founded in 1932, the organization accepts glasses in any condition; just mail them in a padded envelope to the address found on the site.
Paperbackswap.com lets you swap paperback books with other readers. Simply sign up and list the titles you want to get rid of. Once a book you own is requested, the site e-mails the address of a reader who wants the book and sends postage and packaging.
