Burgundy, by way of Sonoma
La Crema winery is located in one of the most temperate parts of Sonoma County and its wines are styled after France's Burgundy region.
La Crema is a family owned winery that sits near the Russian River in one of the most temperate parts of Sonoma County, said Fred Tasker in The Miami Herald. In fields set among serene rows of redwood trees, sisters Laura Jackson Giron and Jennifer Jackson, along with winemaker Melissa Stackhouse, create bottlings of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with a soft tone and complex flavor, styled after “France’s cool Burgundy area.” These are their best.
2007 La Crema “Nine Barrel” Chardonnay Russian River Valley, $70
This is a “big wine”—its alcohol content is 14 percent—with fresh and bold flavors of “powerful baked fruit.”

2008 La Crema Pinot Noir Russian River Valley, $38
My favorite red from Stackhouse, this lush and ripe wine is filled with “black cherry and bittersweet chocolate aromas and flavors.”
2007 La Crema Chardonnay Los Carneros, $30
This bright, bold wine starts with “citrus aromas,” and leaves lingering notes of “toasty oak and caramel.”
