Patrick Kennedy's anti-media 'rant'
The Congressman for Rhode Island passionately accuses the media of "despicable" coverage of the Afghanistan War. Does he have a point?
The staid decorum of the House of Representatives was disrupted yesterday by an impassioned one-minute outburst by Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) during a debate about a resolution to pull troops out of Afghanistan abruptly. With his voice breaking at times, Kennedy railed against the media, accusing it of "despicable" war coverage, and noting that only two journalists were in the press gallery. There's a good reason for that, says John Hinderaker at Powerline; this "goofy" resolution "had no chance to pass," and no sensible journalist would give it the time of day. But Kennedy has a point, says Hamilton Nolan at Gawker, noting that this "rant against the media" has got "way more coverage" than the debate itself. Watch Kennedy's diatribe in full:
