Where everybody eats in Savannah

Diners looking for “that legendary Southern charm” will find it at Elizabeth on 37th in Savannah, Ga., said Tom Sietsema in The Washington Post. Dinner at the city’s best-known restaurant starts with warm-from-the-oven cheese biscuits, perhaps followed by “a surprisingly light cake of black-eyed peas” and grouper in a peanut sauce. The buttermilk-soaked, pan-fried chicken breast manages to be both juicy and crunchy, and the desserts, in true Southern fashion, offer “bliss in every bite.” While the gooey pecan pie is delicious, the real attraction is the angel food cake—torn into chunks, sweetened with sherry-laced custard, reassembled, and frosted with whipped cream. 105 E. 37th St., (912) 236-5547
