Hotel of the week: Mondrian South Beach, Miami
The Mondrian South Beach hotel is styled like “Sleeping Beauty’s castle.”
Despite its name, the Mondrian South Beach is “several blocks from the South Beach melee,” said Condé Nast Traveler. And it’s even further away from the glitz and gaudiness that has come to define that section of Miami. Styled like “Sleeping Beauty’s castle,” the 335-room hotel is a “surreal” escape. “Giant chess-piece pillars grace the glossy white lobby,” and a black filigree staircase winds above the bar. Louis XIV chairs adorn the poolside cabanas, looking like “stage sets” straight from Masterpiece Theatre. The décor would be “pretentious were it not transfixing.” Instead, it puts the magic back in Magic City.
