Tip of the week: How to properly use an electric razor
Don’t skimp on aftershave!
Dry off. Make sure your beard is bone-dry before getting started. Unlike a manual shave, which requires “lubricated stubble,” electric shaving requires facial hair to be “free of moisture and product.” Best not to shower beforehand.
Use a light hand. Don’t press the electric razor as hard against your face as you would a manual one. If shaving with a foil razor, hold at a “90-degree angle and guide it against the direction that your stubble grows.” When using a rotary blade, try to “move it in a circular motion over your face.”
Save face. “Electric razors generate more friction than manual ones,” so don’t skimp on aftershave. Your face will feel warm afterward, so “use a moisturizing lotion to cool it off.” To further minimize irritation, “clean the razor every three uses and replace the blades once a year.”
