Good Day, Bad Day
California organics, superhighway safety
GOOD DAY FOR: California organics, after the Midwest floods, and the resulting crop damage in Wisconsin, is expected to raise the price of organic vegetables nationwide. With organic corn feed lost, this should also lead to higher prices on organic eggs, meat, and dairy. Wisconsin has the second-highest number of organic farms in the U.S., after California. BAD DAY FOR: Superhighway safety, after Chrysler said it will include wireless Internet as an option for all of its 2009 models, in a first for any automaker. Chrysler is hoping the Wi-Fi option will raise flagging sales. Not everyone welcomed the innovation, though. “Surfing the Web is something people really don’t have any business doing while they drive,” said Jonathan Adkins of the California Governors Highway Safety Association.
