An Indian teenager is recovering from a horrific bus crash that left him with a metal pole sticking out of his head. In the crash, a 4-foot length of safety rail went clear through the skull of Manit Rajpurohit and pinned him into his seat. Rajpurohit was freed and taken to a hospital where, surgeon Dr. Sharan Patil relates, “The first thing he said to me was, ‘Get this bloody thing out of my head.’” Miraculously, Patil said, the pole “missed every vital part” of Rajpurohit’s brain and was removed without causing further damage.

Blood tests showed both men to be sober, but an airline source says the embarrassing incidents might prompt Virgin “to include mints as part of our compulsory uniform.”
