Mass grave found
The week's news at a glance.
La Hormiga, Colombia
Police in the southern Colombian province of Putamayo last week found mass graves containing more than 200 corpses, most of them apparently victims of the country’s long-running civil strife. The graves were found in La Hormiga, a hotbed of coca trafficking near the Ecuadorian border. Police say most of the dead had been killed in fighting among government forces, right-wing paramilitary groups, and left-wing rebels. La Hormiga is a stronghold of the AUC, a powerful right-wing group.
