Blackbeards ship found
The week's news at a glance.
Raleigh, N.C.
Archaeologists exploring a shipwreck off the North Carolina coast say it almost certainly belonged to the notorious pirate Blackbeard. Coins, cups, and artifacts found aboard the ship identify it as the Queen Anne’s Revenge, a former French slave ship that Blackbeard captured in 1717, said North Carolina state archaeologist Steve Claggett. The ship ran aground in 1718. Blackbeard, whose real name was Edward Teach or Thatch, plundered the southeastern U.S. coast during the early 1700s.
