Wedding gown blues
The week's news at a glance.
Scottsdale, Ariz.
Thieves last week made off with a truck that was hauling a trailer containing more than 1,000 wedding gowns about to be sold to raise money for cancer patients. Scottsdale police suspect that the thieves likely believed the trailer held a boat or a vintage car. Instead, it contained wedding wear belonging to Making Memories, a nonprofit group that resells donated gowns and uses the proceeds to grant the wishes of women with inoperable breast cancer. The group’s executive director, Fran Hansen, was driving the truck to Los Angeles for a bridal show. “I don’t care about the truck or my luggage,” Hansen said, “but I just beg them to drop off that trailer someplace.”
