Paris
France’s richest man is planning to build a massive modern art center in Paris. Bernard Arnault, owner of the luxury brands Hennessy, Givenchy, and Christian Dior, has commissioned architect Frank Gehry to build a 64,000-square-foot, glass-covered complex in western Paris, on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne. The Louis Vuitton Foundation for Creation will house a permanent collection of modern art and host temporary exhibits of such artists as Damien Hirst and Jean-Michel Basquiat. “The goal of this foundation is to spread the influence of culture, and the influence of France,” Arnault said. “We want to link timelessness and extreme modernity.” Gehry said he wanted the building to look like “a cloud of glass.”
