Muqdadiya, Iraq
In one of the most chilling examples of Iraq’s daily violence, a bridegroom was abducted from his wedding last week and brutally killed. Armed men burst into the reception and dragged Khudair al-Tamimi, 26, a Shiite merchant, off the dance floor, along with his father and three other men. Their beheaded bodies were found the next day. Also last week, several bodies of members of the Shiite militia Mahdi Army were found, bearing signs of torture. Separately, the coach of Iraq’s national tennis team was killed in a drive-by attack, along with two of his players. In Baghdad, two CBS News crewmembers died in a car bomb attack, bringing the death toll among reporters to 71, higher than for World War II. CBS correspondent Kimberly Dozier was critically wounded in that attack.
