Complaints from the right

Washington, D.C.
Conservative Christian leaders are threatening to boycott the November elections unless Republicans do more to advance a conservative social agenda, The New York Times reported. Christian leaders voiced dismay that efforts to fight abortion, same-sex marriage, and pornography have been pushed to the back burner by President Bush and GOP congressional leaders. Complaints from this key GOP constituency carry extra weight this year because polls show Republicans in danger of losing control of Congress. “I can’t tell you how much anger there is at the Republican leadership,” said Richard Viguerie, a prominent conservative fund-raiser. Said Focus on the Family’s James Dobson: “There’s just very, very little to show” for Christian conservatives’ loyal support for the GOP. “There is going to be some trouble down the road if they don’t get on the ball.”
