Vehicular terrorism
The week's news at a glance.
Chapel Hill, N.C.
A former student at the University of North Carolina plowed his Jeep Cherokee into a crowded campus plaza last week, injuring nine students. Charged with nine counts of attempted murder, Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, 22, said during a court appearance that he was trying to “punish the government of the United States for its actions around the world.” Taheri-azar, who was born in Iran but has lived in the U.S. most of his life, said he would use his trial to teach the world “about the will of Allah.” All the injured students are expected to recover.
