Abstinence for Berlusconi
The week's news at a glance.
Rome
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi displayed his commitment to family values this week by pledging not to have sex until after the April 9 elections. Berlusconi made the vow during a campaign rally, after a popular TV preacher praised his party for encouraging moral values. “Dear Father Massimiliano,” Berlusconi announced, “I will try to meet your expectations, and I promise from now on, 2½ months of absolute sexual abstinence.” Berlusconi, 69, is married to actress Veronica Lario, but the two are rarely together, and the prime minister is rumored to be quite the playboy.
