Trenton, N.J.
New Jersey this week unveiled its new slogan: “Come See for Yourself.” Last fall, the state paid an ad agency $250,000 to come up with a phrase to boost tourism, but Gov. Richard Codey rejected the result, “We’ll Win You Over,” as too negative and too prone to ridicule. Instead, he asked the public for suggestions, and received more than 8,000. After eliminating such sarcastic entries as “Most of Our Elected Officials Have Not Been Indicted,” the state put five finalists up to a public vote. Codey said the winner, written by an employee of New Jersey Transit, “embodies the pride that we have in our state. We know it’s a great state. We’re more than just the Turnpike, that’s for sure.”
