Anti-Israeli propaganda
The week's news at a glance.
Ramallah, West Bank
The Palestinian Authority is running a TV series that claims Israel uses AIDS and illicit drugs as weapons against Palestinians. The fictional series shows Israeli guards laughingly beating up Palestinian prisoners, while depicting Israelis supporting Palestinian drug gangs in an effort to get more young people addicted. Palestinian security officials are portrayed as honest and efficient. The series will continue throughout the holy month of Ramadan, a time when many Palestinian families traditionally stay home and watch TV to pass the time while fasting.
