Busted for steroids

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Rafael Palmeiro tested positive for steroids this week, five months after he told Congress that he “never used steroids. Period.” After Major League Baseball officials suspended him for 10 days, Palmeiro revised his story, saying he “never intentionally” took steroids to boost his performance. Palmeiro was the seventh player to be punished under tighter drug rules adopted earlier this year, but he was the biggest star caught so far. He recently became the fourth player in history with 3,000 career hits and 500 home runs. Orioles owner Peter Angelos said he was “saddened” by Palmeiro’s troubles, but said his accomplishments were due to “hard work” and “dedication,” not drugs.
