Al Qaida escapees
The week's news at a glance.
Bagram, Afghanistan
Four Arabs believed to be al Qaida members busted out of a U.S. high-security prison in Afghanistan this week. It was the first breakout at the Bagram prison, and U.S. officials refused to discuss how it occurred. Bagram is the prison where, according to an Army investigation, two Afghans were beaten to death by U.S. guards in 2002. Also in Afghanistan, troops this week found the body of a Navy SEAL missing since a clash with Taliban forces killed two of his comrades two weeks ago. The Taliban claimed to have captured and beheaded the man, but U.S. officials said the body showed he had died in the firefight.
