Academy chief admits problems

The commander of the embattled U.S. Air Force Academy, Lt. Gen. John Rosa, conceded last week that religious intolerance was rampant on the Colorado campus. “As a commander, I know I have problems in my cadet wing,” Rosa said. “I have issues in my staff, and I have issues in my faculty.” Jewish cadets say they have been subjected to anti-Semitic slurs. The school’s football coach once adorned a locker room with a banner reading “I am a member of team Jesus Christ,” and a chaplain reportedly encouraged born-again Christians to evangelize so their peers wouldn’t “burn in the fires of hell.” A task force is proposing reforms, and Rosa plans to begin implementing them before leaving in August to run the Citadel, a military college in South Carolina.
