Governor wins, again

Wenatchee, Wash.
A Washington judge this week rejected a Republican challenge to Gov. Christine Gregoire’s 129-vote victory in last fall’s election, ending the legal fight over the closest statewide election in U.S. history. Judge John Bridges said that while there had been voting errors, Republicans did not prove their claim that Democrats stole the election through fraud. GOP candidate Dino Rossi, who won the first count only to see his victory vanish when the ballots were recounted by hand, conceded defeat, saying an appeal would be futile given the “political makeup” of the Democratic-controlled state Supreme Court. Gregoire said she was relieved. “The cloud is over,” she said.
