Anglican tussle over gays

A special commission of the Anglican Church this week asked American bishops to “express regret” for consecrating a gay bishop last year. That action had prompted many conservative Anglican churches, particularly in Africa and Latin America, to declare a “broken communion” with the Episcopal Church, the U.S. arm of the Anglicans. The commission proposed a moratorium on further ordinations of gays until a global church summit next February, but stopped short of calling for the resignation of the bishop, V. Gene Robinson of New Hampshire. The Most Reverend Frank Griswold, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, said the Episcopalians regretted only that their actions had caused fellow Anglicans pain.
